Man thankful for MBTA driver who returned gift

BOSTON (WHDH) -- A college student was beside himself when he realized he left his backpack behind on MBTA bus with his girlfriend's expensive gift inside.

The teen thought his bag and the jewelry was long gone, he had all of its contents Friday thanks to a stranger and a bus driver who just wanted to do the right thing.

Aidan Low, 18, described the feeling he had when he left his backpack, with very expensive earrings inside, on the Route 36 bus in Forest Hills Monday.

“I realized [the backpack wasn’t on my back until much later,” said Low.

The earrings were a birthday gift for his girlfriend.

“They were gold earrings. Topaz earrings. I thought they looked nice,” Low said.

Luckily, a passenger alerted bus operator Mark Turner that someone left the bag on his bus. So he turned it in, knowing someone would want it back.

“That night, I tossed and turned praying and hoping that person came back and got the bag,” said Mark Turner.

Hours later, after several calls to MBTA's lost and found, Low's backpack and the earrings turned up.

“I’m very grateful, thank you very much,” Low said to Turner.

“It’s a blessing to help somebody out,” Turner said. “Nowadays, you never know when a good person will do a good deed.”

Low says his girlfriend likes the earrings a lot, and will never forget how she almost never got them.
