BU campus hit with string of robberies

BOSTON (WHDH) -- The campus police are on high alert after a string of robberies at Boston University Friday night.
A campus-wide e-mail was sent out informing the students.
The university said at least one student was injured, three of them robbed, including a violent encounter with a gun. Two men made off with purses and cell phones, all belonging to different college students.
“It’s kind of, a little unnerving,” said a student.
“It’s always the same area, over and over and over again. It’s right next to campus. I guess it’s a little concerning,” said another student.
There were two other nearby robberies over the weekend. Campus officials said two BU students were robbed of their cell phones and money. A female student was allegedly assaulted, knocked to the ground by her attacker.
“I wouldn’t walk by myself alone middle of the night so I’m not that worried,” said a student.
“I’m not too worried about it at all. I mean, it’s a very small space it’s happening in,” said a student.
This is the second time this school year the university has seen a rash of robberies.
Although rare, it was back in October Brookline police were looking for suspects caught on surveillance, alleged to have been behind a number of off-campus robberies. Investigators don't think these cases are at all related, but it has some students worried.
“I’m a little more worried this time than last time because it was three separate occurrences with three different people, so it’s not just one person out there that’s doing this, it’s a lot of different people now,” said a student.
