BOSTON (WHDH) -- People are starting to prepare as Friday’s possible blizzard approaches.

This is the same week in 1978 a blizzard dumped more than 27 inches of snow on Boston. The blizzard caused more than $500 million in damage.

Many people who lived through the storm have memories that will motivate them to get ready for Friday’s possible blizzard.

Forecasts show that Boston could see up to 20 inches of snow between Friday and Saturday, with some areas seeing more.

The last time Boston got more than a foot of snow was over two years ago. On Jan. 12, 2011 Boston had 14.6 inches of snow. That came just a few weeks after the Dec. 26 and 27, 2010 storm that dumped more than 18 inches on Boston.

Since then, Boston hasn’t seen a storm that can compare, which has many preparing for Friday because they know we’re due.

Some men plan to put their muscles to work and make money during the storm.

“Shoveling, cleaning cars, anything you need me to do,” said Isaac Morales, who hopes to make money off the storm. “I already have rock salt. I already have shovels. I’ve got extra bodies. I’ve got everything so I’m all set.”

Some people visited a local Home Depot to buy shovels and necessities for the upcoming storm.
