LEXINGTON, Mass. -- A longtime Lexington firefighter is accused of handing out CPR certifications to rescue crews without the required training.

The fireman in question has been part of the Lexington Fire Department for at least 15 years. He remains on the job, but he has hired a lawyer.

The fireman has a business out of his Billerica home called "Life Saving Maneuvers," where he teaches courses on CPR and advahced life support. He allegedly has sold or given away the certificates without actually training anyone.

"You earn it. You basically work for it. You can't buy it, okay...and I think they should be prosecuted, to tell you the truth," said one resident.

Some Lexington Fire Department employees reportedly received their certification from "Life Saving Maneuvers."

Meanwhile, an executive with Cataldo Ambulance confirmed that about a half-dozen of their employees have also been implicated in the scandal, but were not fired.

The COO for Cataldo released a statement that reads, in part: “We immediately took action, recertified these individuals, and complied with the state investigation.”

A spokesperson for the Department of Public Health said Tuesday that the investigation is ongoing.

So far, there is no word on possible disciplinary action.
