EDGARTOWN, Mass. – In Martha’s Vineyard, the normally busy tourist spot was relatively empty on Thursday night.

“We’re worried because a lot of windows, a lot of glass; I’ve got to make sure nothing happens to it. A lot of trees. We have 400 trees on our property,” said Alan Hobart, who is preparing for Earl.

Folks on the Vineyard are used to the swell of people who come for the summer, but they are now having to prepare for the swells that will come with their latest guest, Earl.

“I think it’s going to hit Nantucket and when it sweeps around we’re going to get hit pretty good,” said Hobart.

“I think everybody is prepared. We’ve had a lot of notice, and they put out a broadcast a couple of days ago, so I think everybody is pretty prepared,” said Ginger Pratt, who is also preparing for Earl.

Most people who have homes on the island say they are ready for the foul weather.

“We’re ready. We’ve got gas, the generator ready to go, the chainsaw ready to go, so we’re pretty prepared,” said Pratt.

Most seem to think that if they ride out Friday they will be fine for Labor Day weekend.
