UNDATED -- It’s an extreme case of “lost and found,” a boat lost at sea more than three years ago off the coast of Nantucket reappearing in Spain. The boat’s owner is now talking about what happened when he was tossed from the boat.

The last time Scott Douglas saw his boat, Queen Bee, was on a fishing trip in Nantucket in August, 2008. That day was one he thought he and his brother-in-law would not live through.

“Literally, a wall of green water breaking over and the wave was cresting and breaking over top of the boat so you knew, you knew at the very list you were going to be wet. Your last thought before you’re going in the water is there’s no possible way to survive this,” said Douglas.

Thrown from the boat, Douglas swam for about an hour to get to shore. His brother-in-law, Rich, was recovering from a recent heart surgery and was lagging so far behind, when Douglas finally found a phone to call his wife Wendy, he did not think Rich would make it.

“I burst into tears. Just burst into tears, I don’t know if he’s going to live,” said Douglas.

Both men made a full recovery and three and a half years later, so did the “Queen Bee.” The boat washed ashore in Spain, looking worse for the wear but remarkably, still intact.

The U.S. Coast Guard believes the Queen Bee travelled north towards Canada and then got swept up the Gulf Stream, crossing the Atlantic and sailing down to Spain.
