HYANNIS, Mass. (WHDH) -- A little rain wasn’t enough to keep 7News’ Adam Williams and Tom Brady from doing their part to help others Saturday: They biked from Dorchester to Hyannis, one hundred miles, all for a good cause.
Even with the less than favorable forecast, the Best Buddies International bike ride rolled on from Boston to Cape Cod. The riders were off at 7 a.m., despite the on-and-off rain showers and winds that threatened to knock them off their bikes.
“Howling winds and heavy rains,” one rider said. “I did it for my niece.”
“You’re just inspired by everyone around you, and all the energy and everything,” another said.
The purpose: to raise money and awareness for people living with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It’s a program close to Tom Brady’s heart and his teammates. They made several appearances over the weekend.
“We’ve been overwhelmed with the support and the amount of riders and walkers and runners that we’ve gotten today, so we’re really excited,” Jonathan Brideau of Best Buddies International said. “All the start lines were full, the 100-mile left, with you, packed full of people.”
And for the first-time riders like Adam it turned out to be so much more than a 100-mile bike ride. A day that started with smiles and enthusiasm ended with even more smiles and true friendships.
“I’ve seen more hugs and high fives than I’ve ever seen in my entire life,” Brideau said. “People are happy; they’re excited; they’re celebrating.
7News viewers helped Adam raise about $14,000 for the event.
