PROVINCETOWN, Mass. (WHDH) -- There was new video Saturday night of the so called Barnstable bear on the cape. A man in Provincetown caught the wild sight up close and personal.

Since Memorial Day weekend, there have been sightings in Barnstable, Orleans and now P-Town.

The bear is believed to have swum about 500 feet across the Cape Cod Canal from the mainland.

Officials say research dating to the 1700s suggests this is the first bear on the cape and everyone is intrigued.

It even has its own twitter feed!

But the bear, likely a male about 3 years old and weighing 150 to 200 pounds, may be running out of land.

Wildlife officials say they may attempt to immobilize and move it to an area where other bears live.

Officials say it's possible the bear could retrace its steps and head west.

Officials say the black bear population is slowly expanding into eastern and southern Massachusetts -- so perhaps there will be more cape cod bears in the future.
