ORLEANS, Mass. (AP) -- Federal, state and local officials are scheduled to meet on Cape Cod to discuss multiple shark sightings this summer and what to do about them in the future.

The Cape Cod Times reported that the meeting at Orleans Town Hall on Wednesday is to address liability, inter-municipal communication and notification, as well as the economic effects of beaches being closed because of shark sightings.

There were a record number of great white shark sightings last summer and one man was even bitten while swimming off Truro.

Chatham closed beaches to swimming several times due to sharks and Chatham and Orleans closed some beaches to swimming for the entire Labor Day weekend.

Although the meeting is open to the public, comment will be restricted to municipal, state and federal officials.
