BOSTON (AP) -- Massachusetts environmental officials are seeking the public's input on plans to restore estuary systems on Martha's Vineyard.

Their proposal is part of a project focused on improving water quality along the state's southeastern coastline.

Government officials say population growth and increased development have created an overabundance of nitrogen in the harbors, bays and estuaries of Cape Cod and the Islands.

The Department of Environmental Protection will host a Nov. 28 meeting at the Oak Bluffs Public Library so the public can comment on its plan to clean up three island ponds.

Officials say the plan calls for better treatment and handling of wastewater.

DEP officials are also accepting written comments on the proposal, which can be found at www.mass.gov/dep.
