Norwich police shoot man to death
NORWICH, Conn. (AP) -- State police have identified a man who was shot to death by Norwich police after they say he pointed a handgun at them.
Troopers say 52-year-old Michael Dugas of Norwich was pronounced dead at a hospital after Sunday night's shooting near his Laurel Hill Avenue home.
City police responded to a 911 call about a man with a gun shortly before 7:30 p.m. Officers say Dugas told them he was armed and upset.
Officers say Dugas refused to follow their orders and they were forced to shoot him when he pointed a pistol at them.
Neighbor Paul Johnson told The Day of New London that he heard about 15 gunshots.
Police haven't released the names of the officers involved. They were not injured.
State prosecutors and police are investigating.
