Woman charged in abuse of infant child

OLD SAYBROOK, Conn. (AP) -- A woman whose infant child suffered injuries consistent with abuse last September is facing charges including risk of injury to a minor.

Police are also seeking the woman's boyfriend to make another arrest.

Authorities say 26-year-old Crystal Dorothy of Old Saybrook and her boyfriend, 31-year-old Keith Loftus, lied about how the 7-month-old infant's injuries occurred. Police said Tuesday the injuries the injuries that were found to be "shaken baby syndrome" occurred over several days while the child was in the care of Loftus.

Dorothy appeared Tuesday in Middletown Superior Court. Her charges include providing a false statement in the second degree and interfering with an officer. Her court-set bail was $100,000.

It could not immediately be determined whether Dorothy and Loftus have attorneys.
