HOWLAND, Maine (AP) -- Maine State Police say a man wanted in connection to a recent missing-persons case has killed himself after a standoff along Interstate 95 in the Lincoln area.

The standoff began Monday afternoon after a Penobscot sheriff's deputy pulled over the U-Haul truck. Police say the man's body was found inside the truck shortly before 8 p.m. Authorities suspect he shot himself with a rifle.

Police say a woman had been in the truck with him but exited shortly after it pulled into the breakdown lane at around 4 p.m. Authorities had been searching for the truck and its occupants in connection with a recent missing-persons case.

The interstate in that area closed during the standoff but reopened around 9:30 p.m.

Police say they plan to release the man's identity Tuesday.
