Buzz off! Bees swarm tree outside Natick home

NATICK, Mass. -- Up to 25,000 honey bees were discovered in a maple tree outside a home in Natick on Monday.
“I thought it was incredible what they were doing to build a nest, but it wasn’t a nest at all. It was just thousands of bees on top of each other,” said the homeowner.
Neighbors gathered near the tree to check out the swarm of bees, with some calling it an “amazing” sight.
The homeowner, meanwhile, was expecting a visit from his grandchildren and wanted the bees to buzz off.
“It was just a blizzard of bees. It was just unbelievable. I didn’t know what was going on. It seemed to me something reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock,” said the homeowner.
The homeowner initially called in Natick Police to help remove the bees, but instead called beekeeper Jean-Claude Bourrut to save them.
Borrut climbed 20 feet up to the swarm, removed the branch covered with bees, and trapped the bees.
“It was fun, once we understood we had nothing to fear,” said the homeowner.
There was no bee sting during the entire operation, and the bees were transported to the Boston Nature Center in Mattapan.
