Wayland one of few schools to hold class Thursday

WAYLAND, Mass. -- Many schools in the Commonwealth were closed on Thursday for another snowstorm, but one school just delayed start time for 1.5 hours.
On the South Shore, Norwell always has the reputation of never closing during snowstorms, but they were closed on Thursday. Many communities in the Metro West were also closed today, but Wayland was not one of them.
The snow looked inviting, but the piles in Wayland will have to wait, because school was on - just 1.5 hours late.
“They hardly ever cancel as often as the surrounding towns,” said Niki Duffy, a Wayland mother. “It makes the snow days we do get extra special.”
Wayland does have the reputation of never closing - they have only had two snow days so far this season.
“We’ve actually had two snow days, which is probably a record for the town of Wayland,” said Paulette Green, a Wayland mother. “My kids are very sad that they had school [Thursday.]”
“This is great,” said Chris Nedeau, a Hopkinton father. “You can go skiing, the kids have the day off! Its fun, we’re having a good time. If you live in New England, you expect snow.”
Nedeau added, “[The kids get a snow day] but not dad. Somebody’s got to pay the mortgage.”
He said with all the snow days, no one can afford to take that much time off of work.
In Wayland, many of the neighboring districts were closed on Thursday.
