NEWTON, Mass. (WHDH) --  A high school student went out of her way to make a prom proposal. She placed cups in a fence along a Mass. Pike overpass in Newton to spell out the message to her boyfriend.

If you drove down the Mass. Pike Friday morning, you probably saw the daring message: “Danny, prom? Heart, Molly.”

It was a pretty gutsy note for all to see.

“I’m not sure what his reaction will be. I hope it's a good one. That's he's all surprised and happy that I did it that way,” said Molly McLean, Newton North High School senior.

Molly McLean posted the sign Thursday night with plastic cups for her boyfriend, Danny Anderson -- and the world -- to see. They were already planning on going to prom, but it was something that Danny did last year that caused Molly to take her message public.

“This is payback at its finest, like at its finest, this is payback. So now everyone will know about it and I’m very excited,” said Molly McLean.

Last year when Danny was a senior, he took out an ad in the school's newspaper saying, "Molly - will you go to prom with me? - Danny."

“I was so embarrassed and I don't read the school newspaper so he had to show it to me, and everybody was coming up to me that day saying, ‘did you see how Danny asked you to prom?’” Molly McLean said.
