NEWTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- A man claiming to have a gun robbed the Mount Ida College bookstore Monday morning. Police are now searching the campus for the suspect.

“I can’t imagine there being enough to really inspire anybody to go in there with a gun,” said one woman.

Newton police, campus security and a state police tracking dog were on the scene to assist in the search for the investigation.

No one was injured. There were only a handful of students on campus following the end if the semester earlier this month.

Investigators say targeting a campus bookstore isn’t something they see every day.

“It’s very unusual especially for a college campus. Newton is a very safe community -- we’re always ranked up there within the top 10 in the country -- so to have something like this happen is very concerning to us,” said Lt. Bruce Apotheker of the Newton Police Department.

Mount Ida College said they are working closely with Newton Police to continue the investigation.
