WAYLAND, Mass. (WHDH) -- A somber vigil was held Tuesday to mark the one year anniversary of a Wayland teen's murder.

Friends and family of Lauren Astley gathered at a local church for a candlelight vigil Tuesday night. Her father said it was an opportunity for people to honor the memory of his daughter.

The 18-year-old had just graduated high school when she was murdered.

Authorities say she was strangled by her ex-boyfriend, who dumped her body in a marsh. They had dated for years, but broke up right before the murder.

Nathaniel Fujita, 19, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and assault charges.
