NEEDHAM, Mass. (WHDH) -- On the day her town officially declared Aly Raisman day, the Olympic champion greeted some seven thousand fans who flooded the streets to welcome her home.

The golden girl delivered a simple message to the crowd.

“I hope I made you all proud,” said Aly Raisman.

The town hosted the celebration that included a parade and performances. Raisman was honored with several gifts. She was even sworn in as a deputy sheriff of Norfolk County.

Raisman's parents thanked the sea of admirers for the love they've shown Raisman, all over Needham.

“Just driving through the town and seeing signs and people coming up to us everywhere there's so many people to thank,” said Raisman's father, Rick Raisman.

The celebration of the awe-inspiring Olympian seemed to leave even the Raisman's a little in awe.

“We don't even know what to say we're speechless,” said Rick Raisman.

“I don't know what to say I’m just speechless for all of you that came out here,” said Raisman.

Raisman told the crowd this has been the best summer of her life. For her biggest fans, there's no doubt this day is a highlight of the summer.

“I just think it's amazing she comes from here and to make it all the way to the Olympics,” said one young boy.

“She is a really good gymnast and she's going to be remembered her whole life,” said another young fan.

Those who missed the Rally for Aly have another chance to see her. Aly Raisman will be at the Natick Mall signing autographs on Monday, Aug. 27.
