NEWTON (WHDH) -- Police have arrested one suspect and are still searching for a second in a home invasion in Newton.

Police say they have a 26-year-old Newton man in custody in connection to the armed home invasion.

A call came in around 2:30 p.m. for a reported home invasion on Falmouth Road.

Police say two male suspects wearing black ski masks entered a home in the quiet residential neighborhood.

Two men were inside the home at the time when one of them heard rustling in the back of the house and went to look. The homeowner opened the door and saw the two suspects standing in front of him.

The homeowner was able to bolt free and ran to a neighboring home to call 911. The homeowner's roommate was still inside the home at the time, according to police, who was ordered by knifepoint to stay put as the two suspects rummaged through the house.

"They ordered him into a room and they told him not to move. While they were in the house, they were doing something, he's not quite sure," said Lt. Bruce Apotheker, Newton Police Department.

The homeowner told 7News the suspects did not steal anything from the home.

"They broke in, tried to do a home invasion and I ran out, they didn't make off with anything because there was nothing of value, really for them. I don't really know what or why but I didn't see anything. I literally saw a mask and I ran and that's it," the homeowner told 7News.

Police say the two suspects took off running. One of the suspects was caught by an officer down the street on Cambria Road which intersects Falmouth Road.

“We had a captain that was able to locate one of the suspects. Right now, there’s a suspect that’s still at large. He’s described as a tall, thin, black male about six-feet tall,” said Lt. Bruce Apotheker, Newton Police Department.

There are no reported injuries to anyone inside the home.

The suspect who was brought into custody is facing breaking and entering, assault and battery, and assault with a dangerous weapon charges.
