WAYLAND, Mass. (WHDH) -- A Wayland woman was rescued after she became trapped in her car when a massive tree limb fell on her roof and brought down power lines.

Live electrical wires also put firefighters rescuing the woman in danger.

“I’m just absolutely the luckiest person on earth right now,” said Pam Mauer.

Pam Mauer can't believe she's alive to talk about it. A massive tree fell on her car when she was driving home in Wayland Sunday night. She was able to call 911.

“A tree has fallen on the top of my car and I’m trapped in the car and there’s power lines around me,” Mauer told a 911 dispatcher.

The fallen tree brought down live power lines that ignited a fire inside Mauer's car.

“There were flames all around me on both sides and the car started to fill with smoke and it was pretty hopeless,” Mauer said.

Another 911 caller abruptly stopped talking to the dispatcher to frantically warn someone near the car.

The caller can be heard saying, “Wait, wait, wait…power line! Get away!”

The caller was most likely yelling to Craig Bolivar, who raced out of his house to help Mauer, but it was too dangerous.

“She’s saying, ‘Help, help me get out, I’m trapped,’ and I said, ‘I would love to help you, emergency services are on the way. You have an enormous amount of voltage on the top of your car,’” Bolivar said.

In fact the fire chief says if the power had not been turned off by NStar, even they could not have saved Mauer.

“Basically they would have been able to do very little,” the fire chief said.

The massive tree fell because it was completely rotted out at its base.

NStar was able to cut the power and firefighters were able to rescue Mauer in the nick of time.

“The Wayland fire and police departments came and they rescued me,” Mauer said. “They were just absolutely wonderful. I can’t say enough about them.”

Mauer only suffered minor injuries.
