GARDNER, Mass. (WHDH) -- A man facing drug charges in Connecticut is negotiating a plea deal with federal prosecutors to help solve the 1990 theft of paintings at the Isabella Stewart Gardner museum, according to a report by the Boston Herald.

Earlier this year, investigators searched the home of an alleged mobster, in connection with the heist.

That mobster was set to stand trial with the man prosecutors said is now cooperating with them.
