SPENCER, Mass. (WHDH) -- Police are investigating the death of 20-year-old Alyssa Hayden whose body was discovered in her Spencer apartment Wednesday.
Her brother found her body Wednesday morning in her second-story apartment. She was found with a small wound on her neck, police say. Police were in and out of her apartment where a window on a door leading to the porch was broken.
Hayden lived with her twin sister and her sister's husband.
Her brother-in-law, 21-year-old Steven West, was arrested and charged with misleading a police investigation.
West is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in East Brookfield District Court on a charge of misleading a police investigation.
Local residents said they are shocked to hear of the incident.
"We heard the glass break and two gentlemen came running out of the house and they were obviously very upset. They were hysterical and on their hands and knees and crying and rubbing their heads," said Sheena Toscano, a neighbor.
“It’s just crazy. Right across the street you know. I stand in that window and look at that house. All my customers notice the house every day and just knowing that can happen so close to home and right in our little town and it’s happening too much lately, just too, too much,” said neighbor, Sheena Toscano.
Police are awaiting the results of an autopsy conducted by the medical examiner’s office to confirm the cause of death.
No one has been charged in Hayden's death.
