Newton officials may put charge on shopping bags

NEWTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- Newton officials may put a price on shopping bags.
The Board of Aldermen is reviewing a proposal that would institute a five or 10 cent charge per plastic bag at larger retail and grocery stores.
People who support the proposal said the bags pollute the environment and are hazardous to animals.
The proposal is still in its early stages.
