FOXBORO, Mass. (WHDH) -- Homeowners weren’t the only ones surprised by the nor’easter. Department of Public Works crews said the severity of the storm caught them off guard as well.
“I didn’t have any idea that we were even getting a storm,” said a resident.
“I wasn’t expecting it. When I got home last night I was surprised,” said Gavin Gerssler.
DPW workers had all gone home for the night, only to have to put their plows to work after hours.
“We didn’t expect this at all. They said it was supposed to be just a mix in the morning. Around three o’clock we had some flurries, four o’clock we went home, by 4:30 we were back sanding,” said Pete Solbo, a DPW worker.
Solbo initially called a few men back to work for sanding, but soon realized they would need all plows on deck to combat the snow.
“It was bad. It got bad quick. We got like an inch an hour, said Solbo.
In total, about six inches of snow fell in Foxboro.
Needham residents also said they were unpleasantly surprised.
“Oh my God, how am I going to get this up? It’s so heavy,” said a Needham resident. “It’s too soon.”
On Thursday, public works crews cleaned the drains to ensure there won’t be local flooding this weekend when the warm weather comes and the snow begins to melt.
