2 arrested in connection with Springfield slaying
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) -- Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Springfield last weekend.
Eighteen-year-old Ashawnee Duke was arrested at his home late Thursday morning and charged with murder and other offenses in connection with the death last Sunday of 19-year-old Keough Collins of Chicopee.
Several hours later, 19-year-old Julien Holly surrendered to police and was also charged with murder in Collins' death.
Both suspects are scheduled to be arraigned Friday.
Police say Duke and Holly tried to rob Collins and another man of drugs as they left a city housing project, but Collins fought back. The other man was struck in the leg by a bullet and is expected to survive.
The death was the city's 12th homicide of the year.
