Police believe man was hit, killed on highway
NEWTON, Mass. (AP) -- State police think an 18-year-old man found dead in the median of Route 128 in Newton was struck by a vehicle while trying to cross the highway on foot.
The man's body was found at about 6:30 a.m. Thursday near the Newton service plaza.
Police say it appears the victim was struck while crossing the northbound lanes of the eight-lane highway, his body was thrown into the southbound lanes, where it was struck again. The two sides of the highway are divided by Jersey barriers.
The victim's name was not immediately made public pending notification of family.
Police closed lanes on both sides of the highway, causing major commuter delays.
No charges were filed. Police did not say why he was trying to cross.
