MBTA officer arrested after standoff in NH

NASHUA, N.H. (WHDH) -- An MBTA officer from Billerica was arrested following a standoff with police Thursday night.

The seven-hour standoff took place at the Renaissance Motel in Nashua, New Hampshire.

Police say the suspect fired off four rounds inside the motel they had been

sent to by distraught family members.

Gary McKeon, 47, was arrested after a confrontation with police. He was arraigned Friday morning on four counts of reckless conduct and one count of

making a criminal threat when he allegedly threatened to kill the police

who were trying to diffuse the situation.

“During police interaction with Mr. McKeon, there was a point in which he was observed to be pointing a firearm in the direction of officers and he also made verbal threats to them,” said Detective LR. Michael Moushegian, Nashua, New Hampshire Police Department.

McKeon has been with the MBTA transit police for 21 years and received two commendations for his police work. But he has been on paid administrative leave since December when he was arrested on a domestic abuse charge.
