DOVER, N.H. (WHDH) -- Witnesses say a rabid fox attacked a teenager and his stepmother outside a daycare in Dover, New Hampshire.
Witnesses say the boy and his stepmother were on their way into the daycare to pick up his stepsister.
That's when they say the rabid fox attacked the teen. He fought back but the fox kept attacking until the stepmother rushed to help.
“The fox attacked the teenage boy and his mom tried getting the fox off of him,” said Angela Peck, a witness. “So she kicked the fox, the fox kept biting at her boot.”
The boy and his stepmother were able to get inside safely. The fox then tried to get inside the daycare building.
“We helped the boy when they came in the house. We put a cold compress on his leg,” said Tammy Crossman, a witness.
The fox’s bite didn’t pierce the mother’s boot, and she was fine. When Animal Control arrived the fox attacked again.
The fox was shot and killed by wildlife officials. Tests later confirmed that the animal was rabid.
The boy is said to be undergoing rabies shots and will be fine.
