Man arrested for assault that led to death
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (WHDH) -- New Hampshire State Police arrested a New Hampshire man charged in a dance-floor assault of another man who later died.
Police on Tuesday arrested 24-year-old Zachary O'Nei'l of Dover, who's charged with first-degree assault.
Twenty-four-year-old Joshua Krantz of Dover was found dead in his apartment Saturday by his roommate, Seth Crisp.
“I don’t know. I guess something just said, ‘wake him up’ I guess. I don’t know. It was kind of weird the way it happened I guess. It’s something I’m thinking about a lot,” Crisp said.
Police say the 24-year-old had a fractured skull. Through their investigation, police learned Krantz had been at the Page Restaurant and Bar in Portsmouth, New Hampshire the night before.
After reviewing security footage, investigators say Zachary O’Neill, unprovoked, punched Krantz repeatedly in the back of the head. Krantz didn't seek medical treatment.
“My security was there. We grabbed him immediately and took him out. We went to Josh, we asked him if he was okay, he said, ‘I’m fine.’ Security asked him if he wanted medical attention, he said, ‘no.’ And we said, ‘Are you sure? We’ll get you some medical attention,’ and he said, ‘Not necessary. I just want to get my friends and go home,’” said the bar owner.
The cause of death was a fractured skull resulting in an acute epidural hematoma. The manner of death is to be determined by the state medical examiner's office.
The suspect will be arraigned Wednesday morning.
