Two donkeys returned home after bear chases them
HOLLIS, N.H. (WHDH) -- Two donkeys got loose in Hollis, New Hampshire after a bear chased them.
It all started last week when two miniature donkeys encountered a curious bear roaming in their pen.
“It looks like it climbed up the tree, hit the fence,” said Tim Lavoie. “This part got destroyed. This area here was also knocked down.”
By the time Lavoie and his wife returned home, 14-year-old Rose and two-year-old Jester were gone. They most likely walked out the same way the bear walked in.
“The dispatcher told her there were multiple calls of a bear chasing two donkeys down the road. They were obviously ours because no one else has donkeys around here,” said Lavoie.
The two were found about a quarter mile down the road, the bear apparently gave up chasing them.
“It was pretty startling. I mean a donkey’s not like a dog. If it gets injured you can’t run it to the vet,” said
But they weren’t seriously hurt, just a scratch here and there.
“Now I feel like I should come out here more because you never know what’s going to happen,” said Riley Lavoie.
The homeowners said bears are a relatively common sign in their yard. They even snapped a photo of one not too long ago. Either way, they’re just glad a watchful neighbor found their donkeys roaming the side streets and helped get them back where they belong.
