Acton family finds bear in backyard
ACTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- A family in Acton witnessed a black bear in their backyard.
“I saw this big black fuzz ball. I didn’t know what it was at first. But then I looked out the window and it was a bear,” said seven year old William Pharo.
William and his two brothers spotted the bear before their parents did. Christina Pharo said she was completely shocked to see the furry animal poking around their backyard.
“I thought it was totally crazy. Kids came upstairs and said there’s a bear out back and I was thinking to myself, no way,” said Pharo.
But sure enough, she saw for herself that her boys weren’t playing around. There was a young black bear rummaging through the family’s bird feeder and checking up on their chicken coop.
The Pharos live in a wooded area in Acton where they’re used to seeing all kinds of wildlife, but never bears. Deer, wild turkeys and other wildlife frequent their yard often, but this was an unusual sight to see.
“I was just amazed that he was in our backyard, especially this early in the morning,” said Carter Pharo.
But some members of the family said they weren’t impressed by the sighting. The youngest Pharo said it wasn’t as exciting.
“A little bit, then I went back to watching TV.”
This is the second bear sighting in Eastern Mass in the past two days.
