Marathon bombing victim named prom queen
LOWELL, Mass. (WHDH) – Boston Marathon bombing survivor Sydney Corcoran got a big surprise when she attended her senior prom Tuesday.
She was named prom queen.
“I’m still in shock a little bit because I never would have run by myself,” said Corcoran, who suffered shrapnel wounds in the bombing.
She had been looking forward to this night since before she was injured.
“When I was in the hospital I didn’t think that this was going to be possible and then I got to the rehab and it…cause I was up and I was doing stuff, it just, it felt more like I could do it and it was a goal,” said Corcoran.
She spent the day getting ready and her mom even helped out.
“She wanted to contribute somehow so she actually did my toes,” said Corcoran.
As she slowly made her way inside to the prom, she had no idea she was about to be named prom queen.
“My guidance counselor nominated me, she thought I deserved it. But just because everyone, like a lot of people voted for me…I’m kind of shocked and a little touched,” said Corcoran.
Her focus now is continuing to get better. She is set to graduate on June 7.
