Unique space rock discovered in Amesbury
AMESBURY, Mass. (WHDH)--An out of this world discovery made right here in Massachusetts. An Amesbury man went out for a walk then he found a strange rock. He decided to keep it, but had no idea just how unique it was.
Phil Green, a custodian at the Amesbury Elementary School is a collector of all things unique. But something he found on his property six years ago is really out of this world. Phil said it was during the winter he decided to look around.
When he stumbled upon this rock. He kept it.
“Beautiful color and the fact that it looked kind of weird,” Green said.
Everyone always commented on the rock. Was it a meteorite? Was it from space?
He took it to school, showed it to the kids,” said Green.
Well, about a year ago someone decided to find out.
“My sister-in-law walked off with it and came back and gave it back to me with a piece of paper that said that they thought that it had come from space. She knew the guy that looked at it,” Green said.
Phil was sent this letter say saying they were 87% sure it was from the space station.
“This is the only a piece of it that broke off. There had to be a bigger hunk. See how it's burner? It was probably even rarer. How much stuff goes up and then comes down? Then you walk by and you see it,” said Green.
This is where the rock sat for six years until Phil found out it's possibly part of the space station. So now it's in a secret protect protected location.
