3-alarm fire rips through Lynn apartment building
LYNN, Mass. (WHDH) -- Flames ripped through several rooms at an apartment building in Lynn early Sunday morning. Firefighters had to pull a woman and her two children from a third floor window and now several families are homeless.
“We tried to go out from the front door, but there was just so much smoke, and we could feel the heat coming at us,” said Savean So who escaped from the fire.
So and his three family members escaped out the back. There were desperate moments as a mother and her two children were trapped on the third floor.
“They were actually at a window in the rear of the building. They coaxed them to move through a window that they could get a ladder to. Got a ladder up, got all three people down,” said District Chief Robert Bourgeois, Lynn Fire Department.
“When the fire department came, all just escaped through the ladder from the fire truck,” said So.
The three were rushed to the hospital. A firefighter was also injured in the fast-moving blaze, which began on the first floor. Hours later, residents and their families returned to see what they could save.
“It was destroyed. The second floor was messed up. It was burned, but the first floor was the worst,” said Anthony Sure who helped the family escape.
