Overweight dog goes to local shelter to find new home
DANVERS, Mass. (WHDH) -- A local shelter came to the rescue of a 66-pound dog whose owner is moving out of his Danvers home and into an assisted living facility.
When the dog’s owner asked his veterinarian for help finding a home for his dog, the vet recommended putting the dog to sleep. Someone overheard the owner’s plea and called Sweet Paws Rescue, a dog rescue group.
“We bring the dog to a foster home where we can get him on a regimen of some type of weight loss program and then hopefully somebody will adopt him for good,” said Cynthia Sweet, a dog rescuer.
Sweet Paws hopes this case will raise awareness about the significant number of pets that end up in shelters because their owners move into assisted living facilities.
