Teen allegedly attacks beloved Winthrop man
WINTHROP, Mass. (WHDH) -- A Winthrop teenager faces some serious charges after allegedly attacking an intellectually disabled man.
The victim, Richie, is very well known in Winthrop. He's called the “un-official mayor”.
He was on his way back home Friday morning, recovering after an assault outside Nick's Place, the restaurant where he works.
Richie is well known and so loved. People cried when they heard he had been attacked.
Police said it started when Richie saw a 17-year-old boy messing with someone's car, so he confronted him and that's when the teen allegedly punched him in the face, and broke his jaw.
"He's a gentleman, you know what I mean. Everyone loves him too, so nobody would ever…and anybody who's like that, like Richie, if someone put their hands on him, it's sad. it bothers me,” said Anthony Alexandrou, Nick’s Restaurant owner’s son.
Police said the District Attorney's office may also be getting involved in the case.
