Driver brags on Twitter, gets scolded by police
BILLERICA, Mass. (WHDH) -- A local man's need for speed is getting the attention of several local police departments after he tweets about his fast drive between two towns.
"Took me 11 minutes to go from Billerica to Haverhill. Just got call from NASCAR to be the next Jeff Gordon,” a tweet from the young man’s now-deleted Twitter account said.
"I think that's crap," Becky Green said. "I think he's lying."
"Good for him. Although, I wouldn't suggest him driving like that on the streets. Go on the racetrack,” Aniket Patel said.
The young man's tweet may have been too fast and too furious for his own good.
Billerica Police responded by tweeting “Jeff Gordon does his thing on a race track not on public roads.”
The state police also responded on Twitter, saying “Not smart, son. You put your life, and those of the motorists around you, in danger.”
Google Maps says the drive takes about 30 minutes, nearly three times what the young man said he did it in. On a drive following the speed limits 7News’ Brandon Gunnoe was able to complete the drive in 24 minutes, still more than double the time mentioned on Twitter.
"I live in Haverhill, sometimes it takes me about 15 minutes. I don't know, they should be calling me too,” Hector Arerec said.
