2 suspects held without bail in attack of Haverhill man
HAVERHILL, Mass. (WHDH) -- Two 21-year-old males, Rodney McCray of Haverhill and Roberto Hilerio of Boston, were charged with viciously beating a Haverhill man so badly, they caused severe brain damage, according to the victim's family.
Police say the attack happened August 30 at Lafayette Square in Haverhill at 2 in the afternoon.
Police say the 31-year-old landscaper was merely walking down the street when the two suspects allegedly attacked him. Police say the victim and suspects are not known to each other and that "by all witness accounts this incident was a random, unprovoked attack."
According to police, witnesses say the suspects were "hitting (the victim) in the face and head." And that one of the suspects "...slammed him on his head on the pavement."
Family members say the landscaper is now unconscious most of the time and that when he is awake he doesn't know any of his relatives.
Police say they were able to track down and arrest the two suspects because there were so many witnesses who saw the incident take place.
Both suspects are being held without bail while the case goes to the grand jury.
