2 men rescued from capsized boat in Salem
SALEM, Mass. (WHDH) -- Two men were rescued Saturday morning after spending the night clinging to their homemade boat.
George Reynolds says it's hard to keep track of time when you in the dark and in the water, but he guesses that he and a friend spent more than 14 hours holding onto a boat near Bakers Island. They set sail for Boston on Friday, but the weather turned windy and the two tried to return to Salem. That's when the boat capsized sending both men into the chilly waters.
Reynolds says they knew the sun would be going down in a couple of hours, but they weren't able to flag down any other passing boats.
They were able to stay afloat by holding on to the homemade pontoons, but their waists remained below water.
Finally on Saturday morning a fishing boat named "Fishy Business" found the pair and pulled them to safety.
They were taken to Salem hospital but both men are going to be alright.
