Sizzle stops at Hilltop Steak House in Saugus
SAUGUS, Mass. (WHDH) --The famous Hilltop Steak House closed its doors for the final time Sunday night after more than 50 years in business.
On the final day, more than 1,000 customers ate a meal at the iconic Route 1 restaurant.
The landmark was always hard to miss with the giant neon cactus and the famous fiberglass cows out front.
Customers waited for hours to get one final dinner. They weren't the only one standing around all night. Several Saugus police officers were also on hand because people had been stealing mementos during their final suppers.
The owner of the restaurant says there will be an auction in the future to sell off what's left inside the building.
