Danvers HS football team honors murdered math teacher
DANVERS, Mass. (WHDH) -- Danvers High School football team, cheerleaders and fans honored math teacher Collen Ritzer on Saturday.
During the Danvers-Winthrop football game players wore a special patch on their helmets with the initials CR and wore her favorite color pink shoes. There was no admission charged at the game. instead donations went to her fund.
Saturday Chism's mother released a statement through her son's lawyer that said in part, "two families were unexpectedly and inconceivably changed forever. Ms. Chism’s heart is broken for the Ritzer family and the loss of their daughter and sister Colleen Ritzer."
Students returned to class Friday after the murder of Collen Ritzer allegedly by 14-year-old student, Philip Chism.
Police were on hand as well as grief counselors. Students were stopping by Ritzer’s growing memorial on their way into class. Some students came to school wearing pink.
With freshman 14-year-old Philip Chism behind bars and charged with her death, more details are emerging about the moments before and after the murder.
Sources say school surveillance video, and there are close to 200 cameras positioned between the inside and outside the school, show the teen following Ritzer into a women's bathroom on the second floor. The video goes on to show Chism leaving the bathroom covered in blood.
