LYNN, Mass. -- A California family’s random vacation selection has taken them to Lynn, Massachusetts this summer.

The Maseredjian family of Los Angeles landed in Lynn after throwing a dart at a map to decide where they would go for their family vacation.

“It was my husband's original idea. We were a little skeptical at first, but we gave it a shot and it’s been an exciting odyssey for all of us,” said Jenny Maserdejian

Apparently, this isn't the first time they've done this sort of thing.

“We've done it before, several times before, we’ve been to the South to the Midwest, the Southwest, but this is the first time we’ve been to the Northeast, and we started out in Boston, then went to see Maine, and now we're in Lynn,” said David Maserdjian.

It was their son John who threw the dart, and he and his family have really been enjoying their time in the Bay State.

“We've got to see a whole other side of the country. It’s beautiful out here, and we're definitely happy we're here,” said John Maserdjian.

Lynn Mayor Judy Kennedy rolled out the welcome wagon and even had some gifts, so that they always remember their trip.

Mayor Kennedy even gave them the distinct privilege of awarding them a key to her city.

“It’s really one of those things that makes being the mayor a special job to have, and I’m so happy to welcome them to our corner of the country and have them explore a little and see what New England has to offer," said Mayor Judy Kennedy.

The mayor and her family, along with the Maseredjian family, spent the rest of the afternoon at Red Rock Park Beach.

The family plans to check out even more of New England, including Cape Cod.
