Andover school district confirms hazing incident

ANDOVER, Mass. -- The Andover school district confirmed Wednesday night that a hazing incident involving the boys’ high school basketball team did take place at a basketball camp at Stonehill College in July.
The exact specifics of the incident have not been made public. The superintendent has sent a letter home to parents saying that an investigation into the incident is underway and that the district has a zero tolerance policy on bullying and hazing. The superintendent added that the appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken by the district.
Part of that statement says:
“I am saddened to report that the investigation has concluded that there were violations of the policies. As a school district, we will take appropriate action in accordance with our district policies and state law.”
The athletic director also released a statement saying:
“I intend to suspend student-athletes from participation in the Andover High School 2011-2012 athletic program for varying periods of time.”
