LYNN, Mass. -- Lynn police are searching for a hit and run suspect who struck an elderly woman on Wednesday.

The victim was crossing a street in Lynn around 5 p.m. when a driver stuck her and left the scene. Authorities said the woman was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

“I was in shock. It was scary,” said Griffin Ford, a witness.

Ford, 15, was delivering newspapers on his route when he saw the accident.

“I was doing my newspapers right over there, and then in the crosswalk I saw her get off the bus and she went to cross the street and I guess the guy, I guess like a Honda CRV, was driving. He didn’t stop and boom, he hit her. And I looked back and she was up in the air doing a back flip. I dropped my papers and I ran back to see if she was okay,” said Ford. “The driver took off. The neighbor over there said he stopped and then just kept going and he took off.”

Police said the 69-year-old woman had just gotten off the bus and was crossing the street to get to Union Hospital. Ford said she was in the crosswalk.

“She was like, face-down on the ground and there was blood leaking from her head. I was like, ‘Are you okay?’ and all I heard was she was making a noise like it sounded like she was going into shock or something. It was scary,” said Ford. “They told me to call 911 and I did, and then I realized the hospital is right here a nurse came out and they were like, ‘I’m going to get a doctor,’ and a doctor came out to help too.”

The victim was listed in critical condition at Mass. General Hospital on Thursday evening.

Authorities say the vehicles they are looking for is a dark-colored SUV, possibly a Honda CRV. Authorities say anyone with information is urged to call Lynn Police.
