METHUEN, Mass. (WHDH) -- A pickup truck plowed into a convenience store on Merrimack Street in Methuen Wednesday evening, sending one person to the hospital.

Witnesses said the truck was parking slowly at the White Eagle pantry when it suddenly surged forward and crashed through the window, hitting a 26-year-old man inside.

“He was stopped right here, did a slow stop and then just stepped on it and went right into the brick building,” Joey Tomacchio said.

Witnesses said the person who was hit was a young man. He had to be put in a neck brace and was taken by ambulance to the hospital. They also said the driver refused treatment and did not go to the hospital.

“My husband and I are watching TV in the living room and we heard this crash, bang noise. It was in there. I mean, I’d say the whole truck was in there,” said Laura Torroneo, a witness.

Witnesses were startled by the scene.

“I didn’t really go over there right away because I was in shock,” Tomacchio said. “Never seen anything like it.”

The convenience store was open Thursday. Police say the driver suffers from a medical condition and may not be charged in the accident.

The customer who was struck by the pickup is expected to okay.
