Haverhill man convicted of killing wife

SALEM, Mass. (AP) -- A Haverhill man has been convicted of fatally stabbing his wife two years ago.
Craig Mulgrave was convicted Thursday in Salem Superior Court of first-degree murder for killing Christina Mulgrave in their Haverhill apartment in February 2010.
He was sentenced to a mandatory term of life in prison without parole.
The Eagle-Tribune reports that his defense had argued for a finding of second-degree murder, which carries a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 15 years.
The 35-year-old Mulgrave's lawyer says his client was under extreme stress, depressed that he couldn't find a job to help support his family in his native Jamaica.
Mulgrave was arrested after police responded to the couple's home and found him covered in blood and holding a bloody kitchen knife in his hand.
