BEVERLY, Mass. (WHDH) -- A final report on the investigation into the shooting of a Beverly police officer confirmed that the Hamilton police sergeant responsible for the shooting believed his wife was having an affair with the victim. The Hamilton sergeant committed suicide after the shooting.

Investigators released new surveillance video and 9-1-1 calls from that night.

The surveillance video showed what appeared to be a calm meeting between the two men moments before the shooting.

The police report disclosed that Hamilton Police Sergeant Nagy believed that Beverly Police Officer Lantych was having an affair with his wife.

The surveillance video showed the two men meeting at Starbucks after Nagy had already confronted Lantych about his suspicions over the phone. Lantych suggested that the two meet at Starbucks joking that it was so Nagy couldn’t shoot him.

Lantych said Nagy appeared upset but was calm. After the two men left Starbucks Nagy backed up in his SUV and Lantych walked toward to him, Nagy then fired two shots from inside his car towards Lantych, hitting him in the thigh and the wrist.

Nagy fled but returned to the scene where he shot and killed himself.

According to reports from the Beverly Police Department, Lantych -- in the hospital one day after the shooting -- told investigators that he has known Nagy's wife since high school and that, "I had a moment of weakness with Katy [but] I was never intimate with her."

The report also quoted Lantych as saying he and Katy Nagy, "...had a relationship that first started as confiding in each other and got out of hand."

Police say Katy Nagy stated that her husband had just become aware of her "emotional relationship" with Lantych. The report also reveals that the Nagy's were in the beginning stages of divorce proceedings.

Police found suicide notes shortly after the shooting, one in Nagy’s home and one in his car. In both notes he said he hoped he’d meet Lantych to shoot him and that he was going to kill himself.

Because Lantych recovered from his injuries and Nagy committed suicide the police have closed the case.

The report also mentioned that Nagy had been prescribed Zoloft the same day as the shooting.
