LYNN, Mass. (WHDH) -- A double homicide suspect arrested at the Canadian border was held without bail Thursday after allegedly killing two of his family members.

Police say Joseph Wright, 23, confessed to killing his mother, 54-year-old Donna Breau, and grandmother and then dumping their bodies at a Saugus elementary school before making a run for the border in his grandmother’s car.

“Police observed on the first floor blood all over the living room couch. They then proceeded to the second floor and observed the bed to be saturated and soaked with massive amounts of blood,” said assistant district attorney Michael Patten.

Wright is accused of killing both women inside their Lynn homes and then dumping the bodies at the Lynnhurst Elementary School in Saugus. The bodies were found under tarps, their throats slit from ear to ear.

Wright then allegedly fled in his grandmother’s car. He was stopped at the Canadian border and questioned. That’s when police noticed blood stains in his car.

“Blood was also in the back seat. Saturated blood stains as well as blood on the defendant’s pants and on his underwear,” said Patten.

Police said they were able to track the suspect to Canada by following his transactions on ATMs from Lynn up into Maine.

“When told of Canadian charges the defendant responded ‘That’s nothing, I just slit the throats of my mother and grandmother in Massachusetts, dumped them at a school and left the knife in the apartment,’” said Patten.

Wright’s attorney said his client understands the charges against him, but wouldn’t say if Wright was remorseful.

“He’s being accused of killing his mother, killing his grandmother and fleeing. I’m not sure what kind of emotion you’d want from him,” said Morris.

In court Wright mouthed something to his sister, who then responded with “I love you.” After the arraignment Wright’s sister had no comment to reporters. At the family’s Lowell home they expressed anger and frustration.

At one time, Wright’s dad filed a complaint against him for assault.

Wright is being held without bail and will undergo psychological evaluations.

No motive was mentioned in court.
