NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (WHDH) -- A pickup truck crashed into a school bus in Boxford sending two people to the hospital Monday.
The truck plowed into the bus that had three elementary school students on board, and then burst into flames.
“The truck was fully engulfed and I couldn’t really see yet so I didn’t know how bad it was,” said Joseph Gagne, a tow truck driver.
Gagne was one of the first people to arrive at the scene of the crash on West Main Street around 4:15 p.m.
“My main concern was whether they got everybody out or not. I didn’t expect everybody to be okay when I first pulled up,” Gagne said.
Everyone was okay, even though police say the truck's 65-year-old driver crossed the center line veering right into the front left side of the bus. The driver got out just in time.
“He had some lacerations to his arms, but other than that he walked away,” said Gagne.
The school bus driver and one of the elementary school students were transported to the hospital. The bus driver suffered leg and neck pain, and the child had hit their head on the seat in front.
“Seemed to be okay. One had an ice pack, the bus driver was laying on a stretcher from the fire department. They were just waiting on the ambulance,” Gagne said.
Police have not disclosed why the truck driver may have crossed the center line, or if any charges will be filed.
